On the last weekend of October, Oakhurst held the annual Flute Festival. This festival celebrates the music of traditional Southwestern Indian flutes. They held evening concerts and had a variety of vendors.

I only managed to see a little of the festival, but there were some very fine musicians and beautifully crafted instruments.

Frank Saxton is an artist and philosopher who has the “Earth Prayers Gallery” at “The Center” in Fresno. His art emphasizes the connection between the spiritual and natural world.

Jamming

Jamming is the time-honored musical phenomenon that spontaneously takes place at musical festivals. Someone starts to play a song, and anyone with a musical instrument, voice, or hands can join in and play along.

Musical Instruments

Didgeridoos come in all sizes and colors. So do Drums. There were instruments of all varieties joining the rhythmic drumbeats and low drones of the doos.

I made it to the last of a series of Didgeridoo Fests held in North Fork, about a half an hour’s drive from the ranch. It was a wonderful photo experience and a great place to be. The park was filled with the sounds of drums and didgeridoos and many different instruments from people jamming away. Children had a great time swimming in the pond, playing on the playground equipment, throwing frisbees in the air, and having as much fun as the adults there.

Didgeridoodling

One vivacious girl offered to be my model as she demonstrated the playing of a colorful didgeridoo.

People Watching

There were many very interesting people at the fest. For once, I went out of my way to capture the people in addition to the colors and festivities.

Festive Style

There were music classes held during the day and a concert on Saturday evening. It was colorful and laid back at the same time. The people reminded me of the bright side of the hippy generation – all here to share the good vibes of life.
